| El
Refugio de Potosí El Refugio de Potosí is both
a wildlife care and rescue center as well
as a fascinating nature tour attraction. See local animals being
nursed back to health for release into the
wild as well as others who, due to injury
or other reasons, are no longer able to care
for themselves. You'll also find a butterfy
pavilion and the restored bones of a humpback
whale. Located on the road to Barra de Potosí.

Campamento Tortuguero de Valentin Unfortunately
poachers have created a devastating decline
in the sea turtle population in this area. At
Playa Valentin (approximately 1 hour south of
Barra de Potosi), a group of volunteers are
collecting and hatching sea turtle eggs. Once
the eggs hatch the baby turtles are held for
five days, then released into the water at
night. To date they have released over
1,500 turtles.
Iguanas Approximately
15 minutes from Barra de Potosi is an iguana
habitat, a large tree that has over one hundred
iguanas living in it. The owners of the
property feed the iguanas leftover produce
at 10 am every morning. It's quite a sight
to see!
Beach Dogs Syd and LaRae
Baker (owners of Casa Puesta del Sol) have
adopted two homeless dogs in Mexico and have
assisted in finding homes and medical treatment
for many more. Osito and Nixon were both
in rough shape when they found their way in
the homes and hearts of the Baker family and
we are happy to say that they are now healthy,
happy and well travelled dogs. Should
you have any questions about adopting a beach
dog in need, Syd and LaRae will be happy to
share their experiences with you (info@casa-puesta-del-sol.com).
